April 18, 2025 – In a special episode of “Building Useful Stuff,” Beryl Li, co-founder of Yield Guild Games (YGG), shared insights into the guild’s role as a founding member of HumanAIx, the newly launched alliance building decentralized, human-centric AI infrastructure. YGG is contributing its extensive network of Web3-native communities across emerging markets to democratize participation in AI development, data contribution, and next-gen gaming.
YGG, the Web3 Guild Protocol, brings a unique approach to HumanAIx by enabling real-world data labeling, AI training, and economic opportunities across geographies such as the Philippines, Southeast Asia, Latin America. As Li emphasized, “We’re providing human input—from our communities to global AI applications.”
Reimagining Gaming and AI Collaboration
According to Li, decentralized AI offers transformative potential for gaming. AI companions are already enhancing player performance in esports, while generative AI is enabling YGG’s community to quickly create and monetize in-game assets. “With AI and Web3, we allow players to build, own, and distribute their creations—true digital ownership,” Li noted.
Beyond gaming, YGG is pioneering community-powered data labeling for AI systems—engaging individuals from underrepresented regions to contribute to datasets traditionally dominated by centralized, Western-controlled sources. “We can now involve participants from remote provinces in the Philippines or Colombia in processes like clinical trials, making AI development truly global and inclusive,” Li said.
A New Paradigm for Data Ownership and Rewards
YGG is piloting decentralized data ownership models where users can tokenize personal data—such as from wearable health devices—and decide how it is shared or sold. “With decentralized AI, individuals own their data. They choose how it's used and get paid for it,” Li stated. This model stands in stark contrast to legacy platforms where user data is extracted without compensation.
Addressing AI Ethics and Architecture
As discussions grow around AI misuse and the open vs. closed source debate, Li stressed the importance of responsible AI architecture and regulation. “We must architect AI to augment—not replace—humans. Whether in gaming or medicine, AI should act as a companion, enhancing human capacity,” she said. She also called for proactive governance within alliances like HumanAIx to tackle challenges such as data privacy, cloud security, and cyberattacks.
A Vision for the Future: From Clinical Trials to Space Simulation
Looking ahead, Li highlighted the potential of decentralized AI to drive longevity research, automate daily life, and even simulate space exploration. She envisions AI-powered robotics mapping unknown territories, with communities gamifying the experience—turning global challenges into interactive missions. YGG has already begun testing this model through the Earth Rover Challenge, where local operators remotely control exploration robots.
On Gaming’s Future
Despite market cycles, Li reaffirmed her belief that gaming is intrinsic to human nature and will continue to evolve. “Gaming is here to stay. It may look different, but it will always be a core part of how we play, learn, and earn,” she said, reflecting on the transition from play-to-earn to more sustainable and engaging models.
