OORT was, is, and will always remain an open ecosystem. We have never monopolized, and will never monopolize, the manufacturing or sales of Deimos or any other mining equipment. Every qualified partner will have the opportunity to apply as a Deimos II provider. The onboarding framework and policies for new partners will be introduced in the Octorber.
The experience with Deimos I taught us important lessons. Some suppliers used virtual machines or unreliable equipment, which significantly damaged network stability. Although penalties were applied through staking mechanisms, in some cases suppliers refused to correct issues and this created disputes that damaged community trust. To prevent similar problems, we are taking a gradual and cautious approach to Deimos II manufacturing and sales. Our team is developing stronger technical solutions and security mechanisms, which take time to build and test.
We are building a platform that will provide full transparency by displaying the full information of every node in the OORT network. This will allow the community to see the network’s scale and integrity in real time.
OORT is also working with partners such as Witness Chain from Princeton University to develop advanced algorithms that authenticate hardware and detect virtual machines in Deimos devices. For this reason, the full source code of Deimos has not been publicly released yet. Releasing it would not only compromise intellectual property and patents of our partners, but could also allow malicious actors to bypass security mechanisms and put the network at risk.
